By replacing an antiquated 1919 building, the new 6 - 8 Ashland Middle School offered the opportunity to reimagine middle school education. An open cafeteria/common area serves as a hub for shared spaces including the media center, gym, music rooms, and art studios. The school is designed with after-hour community use areas separated from the academic classroom wing.
Each floor of the 3-story academic wing houses two grade-level teams grouped around an Extended Learning Area (ELA). Operable walls between classrooms and between the science labs and ELA provide flexibility for varied learning options. The Ashland “Arrows” logo is expressed by colorful, acute triangle patterns throughout the floors, walls, and ceilings to create a dynamic, energetic environment.
