Expressing Your School's Unique Spirit, History, & Character
Earl Crossland, RA, LEED-AP | VSWC Vice President + Architect
Many buildings incorporate school colors and painted mascots or logos.
Why not use the actual building form and graphic murals to deeper express a school’s unique history and character?
A school’s architecture can represent a mascot, logo or letter. This can be conveyed through exterior architectural shapes, window patterns or applied sculptural elements. Interior floor and ceiling patterns can also carry-through the theme.
As new schools are built and old buildings are demolished, the community
history of previous schools is often lost. Graphic murals can be designed to include historic building images and old yearbook photos that capture the essence of previous eras. These graphics can be transferred to wallpaper covering large expanses of walls.
Inspirational quotes and aspirational character goals can also be expressed by wall graphic designs placed throughout a school. This communicates to students, staff and parents a set of shared core values.
Employing the full range of architectural elements, murals, and graphics helps bring your school’s unique spirit, history and character to life.
VSWC Architects excel at developing these themes in all of our projects.
